13-year-old girl who was seriously injured on the ground when a Pakistan International Airlines plane crashed in an overcrowded area, died of her burns, bringing the death toll in the crash at 98, according to a media report on Tuesday.

Naheeda Khaskheli became the first casualty on the ground on Monday, the Dawn newspaper reported.

Naheeda worked as a domestic helper with her two sisters – Aziza, 20 and Mahira, 18 – in Model Colony. They were busy doing their usual house cleaning tasks when the plane crashed, leaving the girls seriously injured.

Aziza and Mahira suffered more than 70% of the burns. Naheeda suffered 59% burns. The three girls had been treated in the burns department of the Dr Ruth Pfau civilian hospital in Karachi in Karachi.

Meanwhile, a team of Airbus experts investigating the May 22 plane crash returned to France on Monday.

They took with them the flight data recorder (FDR) and the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the crashed A320 aircraft in France, where the Bureau of Investigation and Analysis for the Safety of civil aviation (BEA) will start decoding them on Tuesday.

French officials will open and download information from the FDR and CVR if the recording chips are intact inside their impact resistant shells.

Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in a statement on Monday that the bodies of 87 victims had been identified and handed over to their relatives.
