India’s COVID-19 death toll crossed one lakh on Friday evening, while the number of cases climbed to over 64 lakh and recoveries soared to 54,15,197, according to data from states and territories of The union.

Data from the Union Health Ministry updated at 8 a.m. on Friday showed a one-day peak of 81,484 infections, bringing the number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 63.94,068, while that the death toll climbed to 99,773, with the virus killing 1,095 people within 24 hours.

However, at night, a PTI tally showed the number of COVID-19 cases in India at 64,64,012, the number of deaths at 1.00,768 and recoveries at 54,15,197. The count has been drawn up on the basis of information provided by the States and Union territories.

India ranks first in terms of the number of coronavirus cases recovered, followed by Brazil and the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University, which has compiled COVID-19 data from around the world.

The Union Health Ministry said on Sunday that a total of 53.52,078 people have recovered from coronavirus infection, bringing the national cure rate to 83.70%, while the death rate for cases of COVID-19 was recorded at 1.56%.

There are 9,42217 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, representing 14.74% of the total number of cases, according to the data.
