External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the UN must be reformed.

New Delhi:

Reformed multilateralism has become an imperative and India will defend the interests of the developing world to strengthen global consensus on key contemporary challenges, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday.

“As @UN marks its 75th anniversary, reformed multilateralism has become a critical imperative. India will join the UNSC in January 2021 as a non-permanent member,” Jaishankar tweeted.

“We will defend the interests of the developing world and seek to strengthen global consensus on a major contemporary challenge,” he said in a subsequent tweet.

On Wednesday, Jaishankar said that multilateralism is now under serious threat, as big countries are focused on their own interests.

“Multilateralism is now seriously threatened because the big countries are focused on their own interests,” he said at the launch of a book.

Calling for reforms at the United Nations, he said that the United Nations must be reformed.
