Delhi’s daily covid chart had started rising 12 days ago.

New Delhi:

The coronavirus peak in Delhi continues unabated, Union Home Secretary Amit Shah has called an urgent meeting tonight, which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to attend. Sources said the Home Secretary is concerned about the steady rise in Covid cases in Delhi. The meeting will take place at the Home Secretary’s office in the North Block at 5:00 p.m.

Mr Shah and Mr Kejriwal have met at least twice in recent months to discuss the coronavirus situation in the nation’s capital and the Home Secretary intervened when the nation’s capital saw its first peak.

Previously, sources said among other things that the two would likely discuss the acute shortage of beds for Covid patients in the intensive care units of the city’s hospitals.

With the availability of intensive care beds with respiratory assistance reaching an all-time low, the Delhi High Court last week authorized the government to reserve 80% of the beds in the intensive care units of 33 private hospitals for Covid patients.

This time, the High Court had also questioned the government, observing that a city is now experiencing a daily peak more important than the big states like Maharashtra and Kerala. When other states impose restrictions, the Delhi government relaxes all standards, the court said, citing as examples the government’s decision to allow 200 people to attend public functions instead of reducing the number and allow public transport to be fully occupied.

Delhi’s daily Covid chart had started its ascent 12 days ago. In the 24 hours to November 3, the city had recorded an increase of 6,725 cases after a few weeks of low numbers.

A few days later, on November 6, he crossed the 7,000 mark.

On November 11, it broke the 8,000 mark, registering 8,593 cases, an all-time high for the city.
