Gwalior:

The Hindu Mahasabha celebrated on Sunday the 71st anniversary of the deaths of the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi Nathuram Godse and co-conspirator Narayan Apte in Gwalior.

Godse and Apte were hanged to death in Ambala prison on November 15, 1949 after being convicted of killing the Mahatma. Hindu Mahasabha observes their death anniversary as the “day of sacrifice”.

Mahasabha said if the bust of Godse, confiscated three years ago from his office by authorities in Gwalior, is not returned, he will install a new one.

Its National Vice President, Dr Jaiveer Bhardwaj, said: “Our members have played”aarti“and paid homage to Godse and Apte to Daulatganj.”

“If the bust of Godse is not returned to us by May, we will install a new one,” he said.

He claimed that it was not a crime to install a bust in a private building and the Constitution guarantees its “puja“(worship).

District authorities confiscated Godse’s bust in November 2017, foiling the right-wing team’s attempt to turn his office into his “temple”.
