Bhupender Yadav appointed BJP Election Officer for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls

The BJP on Sunday appointed its general secretary Bhupender Yadav as the party’s head of elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls, a move that underscores the importance it attaches to local body elections.

In a statement, the party said its chairman JP Nadda also appointed Union Minister Anurag Thakur to be responsible for the upcoming local elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

K Sudhakar, a minister from Karnataka, Ashish Shelar, the chief whip of the BJP in the assembly of Maharashtra, the head of the BJP of Gujarat Pradip Singh Vaghela and the deputy of the BJP of Karnataka Sathish Reddy will be co-indicted with Mr. Yadav for GHMC polls, the statement said.

Party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain and his deputy MP Sanjay Bhatia will be co-responsible for the J-K poll.

With the BJP making big gains in Telangana, first seen in Lok Sabha’s polls and then highlighted by its surprise victory over the TRS in a recent assembly ballot, the party is looking at the GHMC polls to make a statement politics in the state.

He is likely to aggressively target the ruling TRS and its ally AIMIM, which has a stronghold in the Muslim regions of the state capital, to emerge as a force within the GMCH.

The appointment of a national secretary general to take charge of the city’s ballot boxes underlines the importance that the Saffron party attaches to the ballot box.
