After witnessing a period of heavy rain over the past three days, neighboring Mumbai and Thane received moderate rain on Monday, but IMD predicted showers will continue overnight in the region.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the meteorological office of Santacruz (in the suburbs) recorded 5.2 mm of rain, while the weather station of Colaba, representative of the island city, reported 1.2 mm of rain between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The Thane-Belapur Industries Association observatory recorded 34 mm of precipitation during the period, IMD said.

“The showers will continue tonight in and around Mumbai, as shown by the latest satellite and radar images ..”, tweeted IMD Mumbai deputy general manager KS Hosalikar.

The Matheran weather station in Raigad district received 22 mm of rain during the same period, IMD said.

Dahanu Observatory in the Palghar District reported 16.8 mm of rain, while the Nashik Weather Office reported 4.3 mm of rain during the period.

The weather station at Santacruz in the western suburbs of Mumbai recorded a torrential rain of 116.1 mm on Monday during the 24 hours ended at 8:30 am, while the weather station of Colaba in the south of Mumbai recorded precipitation of 12, 4 mm during the same period.

Mumbai and other parts of the coastal Konkan region have been experiencing heavy rain since Friday.

On Sunday, Lake Powai in the suburbs of Mumbai began to overflow after the heavy downpour.
