Dharamshala:

BJP deputy Kimra of Himachal Pradesh, Kishan Kapoor, urged the center to entrust the country’s highest civil order – Bharat Ratna – to the Dalai Lama and called for the liberation of Tibet from China.

Bharat Ratna will be the centre’s best gift to the Dalai Lama on his 85th birthday, said Kapoor, who congratulated the Tibetan spiritual leader of Dharamshala today.

“It is a great chance for the people of the State, in particular for the inhabitants of my riding, that the Dalai Lama, come from Tibet, settles in McLeodganj after having decided to live in exile”, has T -he declares.

Supporting the demand for full independence of Tibet, Kapoor said that the way in which China conquered Tibet through excesses is regrettable.

According to him, China is used to seizing neighboring territories, which is why it claims the Vladivostok region in Russia even after signing a treaty with it almost 150 years ago.

China should come forward to resolve the border dispute without violence as a good neighbor and “hand over” Tibet to the Dalai Lama, he said.

Earlier also, several people asked to confer Bharat Ratna on the Dalai Lama.

Shanta Kumar, a senior BJP leader and former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, had submitted in April 2019 to the Union government a letter signed by the deputies of several political parties, supporting Bharat Ratna’s request for the Dalai Llama.

Former Foreign Minister Nirupama Rao also posted just days after the clash between Indian military personnel and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley that he should receive the award.

Historian Ramachandra Guha in an article last year argued that India should assert its respect for the Dalai Lama by openly honoring him with Bharat Ratna.
