New Delhi:

India and China hold their eighth round of corps commander-level talks in Chushul, eastern Ladakh on Friday to address the current military stalemate on the real line in that country.

The Indian side is led by the commander of the 14th Corps, Lieutenant-General PGK Menon.

The two sides have already held seven rounds of corps commander level talks to discuss the whole issue of transgressions in the eastern sector of Ladakh.

The latest round of talks took place on October 12, during which the two sides discussed a number of de-escalation and disengagement measures by both sides in the eastern sector of Ladakh.

India and China have been locked in a bitter stalemate along the LAC for the past six months. As China began to build up massive military force along the ALC, India responded with an appropriate build-up. On August 29 and 30, India occupied heights along the northern and southern shore of Lake Pangong, which includes dominant positions overlooking the Chinese military deployed in this region.

The Chinese called on India to withdraw troops and tanks from the South Rim first, but India called for discussion and disengagement from all sticking points.
