Pending investigation, all NH90 Dutch helicopters will be immobilized until further notice

Amsterdam:

A Dutch military helicopter crashed in the Caribbean Sea near the island of Aruba, killing two of the four people on board, the Dutch Defense Ministry said on Monday.

Rob Bauer, the head of the Dutch armed forces, said the cause of the helicopter crashing about 12.5 kilometers off the Dutch island at the end of a coastal patrol surveillance flight on Sunday n was unclear.

Helicopter pilot Christine Martens, 34, and tactical coordinator Erwin Warnies, 33, were killed.

The other two crew members were not seriously injured, said Bauer.

Pending an investigation into the accident, all Dutch NH90 helicopters will be immobilized until further notice.

There was no immediate comment from NHIndustries, the Aix en Provence, France-based helicopter maker.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he was shocked by the accident and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.
