The shooting took place at the judge’s home in New Jersey

The FBI said it was looking for a suspect in Sunday’s shooting at the home of a New Jersey federal judge, who left his dead son and husband in critical condition.

US district judge Esther Salas was at home at the time of the shooting in northern Brunswick, New Jersey, but was unharmed, media reports said.

“The FBI is investigating a shooting which took place at the home of judge Ester Salas in the township of North Brunswick, New Jersey earlier this evening, July 19,” the FBI office in Newark posted on Twitter on Sunday.

An FBI official said Monday morning that there were no further updates to the investigation.

Investigators have preliminary information that a person dressed as a FedEx driver arrived at the family home in North Brunswick at around 5:00 p.m. (2100 GMT), ABC News reported on Sunday, citing multiple law enforcement sources.

Salas’s son, Daniel Anderl, was 20 years old. Her husband, prominent defense lawyer, Mark Anderl, 63, was hospitalized in critical condition.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and U.S. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey were among the political leaders who expressed concern about the incident on Twitter.

Menendez said he knew Justice Salas well and had recommended his appointment to the federal bench.

“My prayers are with Judge Salas and his family, and that those responsible for this horrific act are quickly apprehended and brought to justice,” wrote Menendez.
