Delhi Crime: A 19-year-old was stabbed and left bleeding in a busy Delhi community on Sunday.

New Delhi:

A 19-year-old man was repeatedly attacked, dragged and stabbed by a group of men in a busy residential area in northwest Delhi, and left to bleed as passers-by watched the horror unfold on Sunday. The man’s friend, who tried to save him, was stabbed and seriously injured in the incident which has shifted attention to public indifference.

The daytime stabbing was captured in a home CCTV camera, on the basis of which police arrested two main defendants and are looking for others. They have been identified as Somprakash and Suraj.

An attempted murder case has been filed against the accused.

Police identified the 19-year-old as Shivam and his friend as Mohit, who were reportedly targeted for a small altercation over Diwali. They are both residents of the urban village of Azadpur in Delhi.

According to police, Shivam was attacked early Sunday morning, one day after Diwali, as he was out shopping for his family; he was accompanied by Mohit. The two were not far from their home, when a group of men arrested Shivam and started beating and stabbing him indiscriminately. They then dragged him down a narrow alley, the CCTV footage lasting two and a half minutes.

Pictures show Mohit being stabbed as he tried to help his friends as passers-by, shopkeepers and even residents watched but did not intervene. Some can even be seen curiously following the bustle towards the alley.

Later, the visuals show a bleeding Shivam coming out of the alley and heading towards the main road where he collapses after doubling in pain. You can see people walking around him.

A few minutes later, a young man sees Shivam coming with a rag, covering him in it and leading him away.

Shivam and Mohit are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries at a trauma center in Kashmiri Gate, where they were transferred from a local hospital after their condition deteriorated, police said.
