The West Bengal government on Saturday gave an estimate of more than Rs a lakh crore for the damage caused by Cyclone Amphan to the visiting central interdepartmental team (IMCT) after its two-day investigation into the devastation, officials said. .

According to the list submitted to the IMCT by the State, the total estimated damage in the cyclone of May 20 is Rs 1.02.442 crore with a maximum of Rs 28.56 crore being cited for the destruction caused to the houses of dwelling.

The second maximum loss of Rs 26,790 crore was in the industries sector, including MSMEs, while the valuation for the agricultural sector was Rs 15,860 crore, according to a government statement.

The loss in the fishing sector was 2,000 crore rupees and 6,581 crore rupees in the horticulture sector, the report said.

For the animal resources development department, the loss was estimated at Rs 452 crore, while in the urban infrastructure department, the figure was Rs 6,750 crore, according to the press release.

“A list of our loss assessment has been provided to the team. We shared our views and shared with them the areas in which immediate help is needed. The team has taken note of this,” said PTI a senior government official.

The damage list was given to the seven-member core team during its hour-long meeting with the Secretary General of the State, Rajiva Sinha, and other senior officials from departments like home, finance, agriculture, electricity, the disabled, irrigation, forestry, industry, horticulture and food preparation.

“Views were exchanged between the government and because they (the team) were unable to visit all areas, they were also shown photos of other areas devastated by the extremely violent storm. We showed them photos of areas still flooded, “said the official.

The assessment of losses in health, education, anganwadi, forest, roads, including rural roads and bridges, was also shared by the state government.

IMCT, led by Anuj Sharma, the assistant secretary (cybersecurity and information security) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs visited the two most affected districts of the North and South Parganas 24 to assess the damage caused by the cyclone .

The central team arrived in the city on Thursday evening and visited the areas affected by the cyclone of North 24 Parganas on Friday and those of South 24 Parganas on Saturday. The team would submit its assessment to the central ministry, after which it could release funds to assist the state government.

The Center provided advance financial aid of Rs 1,000 crore to the state for relief and restoration work after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement after conducting an aerial survey of some areas affected by the cyclone on May 22 .

On the day of Prime Minister Modi’s visit, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had declared that the state had suffered losses of more than Rs a lakh crore due to the cyclone and she informed the Prime Minister in detail of the post situation -cyclone.

The cyclone left 98 dead and caused massive destruction of property in several districts of South Bengal.
