Kolkata:

The West Bengal health department released a modified standard operating procedure (SOP) on Saturday to pay a final tribute to those who die from COVID-19 in the state.

The state health department has asked hospital authorities to inform family members within one hour of the death of a coronavirus patient. Hospitals were also asked to use body bags with transparent covers.

“The body should be kept in an appropriate place for 30 minutes during which family members will be allowed to pay their last respect,” says the modified SOP.

The state has recorded another 435 cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 7,738.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 4,236. 311 deaths have been reported due to COVID-19, of which 72 had comorbid conditions.
