Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Wednesday that there was a concerted effort to link Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Although Mr Raut did not take any names, he said the opposition could not digest the fact that the Sena-led government was in power in the state.
“What does Aaditya Thackeray have to do with the Sushant Singh Rajput affair? It seems the opposition still cannot figure out that the government led by Shiv Sena has come to power in the state.” Mr. Raut told reporters.
Those who conspire to associate Aaditya Thackeray, also head of the Shiv Sena youth wing, Yuva Sena, in the case will have to pay a heavy price, he said.
Aaditya Thackeray, son of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, said on Tuesday that he had no connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and that he and his family were being targeted for no reason.
He alleged a dirty political model after the Bollywood actor’s death and without naming anyone, and said the allegations against him are “political stomach pains” resulting from frustration.
It was the first time that Aaditya Thackeray responded to speculations that drew her into the investigations of Sushant Singh Rajput.
The media have suggested that the Maharashtra government, in particular the Mumbai police, is trying to protect a politician linked to Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, who is accused by the actor’s family of transferring from money from his account and mentally harass him.
A photo by the state’s tourism minister with an actress has gone viral, with many claiming she was Rhea Chakraborty. The photo was actually that of another actor.
Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14. Mumbai Police, who said the actor died by suicide, are investigating the case.
Police in Patna Bihar have also registered a case against Rhea Chakraborty, also an actor, following a complaint filed by Sushant’s father, KK Singh.
The two cases led to a turf war between the Mumbai police and the Bihar police.
The Bihar government on Tuesday recommended a CBI investigation into the case.
