The Himachal Pradesh assembly last year passed a bill against conversion by force, incitement or marriage performed for the “sole purpose” of adopting a new religion.

“We are considering a law against the love jihad in Haryana,” Vij said in response to an attention notice calling attention to the Ballabhgarh murder case.

The Home Secretary said a challan in the case would soon be filed and would be entered in a fast-track court.

Mr. Vij also told the Assembly that safety was guaranteed to the victim’s family.

The accused – Tousif – belonged to a “powerful political family” and he was detained within 12 hours of committing the crime, Vij said, adding that the murder had shaken the whole country.
