Haryana Interior Minister Anil Vij told Vidhan Sabha on Friday that the state government is considering a law against “jihad in love” and had requested information from Himachal Pradesh, which had adopted a bill. of law on the matter.
The Himachal Pradesh assembly last year passed a bill against conversion by force, incitement or marriage performed for the “sole purpose” of adopting a new religion.
“We are considering a law against the love jihad in Haryana,” Vij said in response to an attention notice calling attention to the Ballabhgarh murder case.
The Home Secretary said a challan in the case would soon be filed and would be entered in a fast-track court.
Mr. Vij also told the Assembly that safety was guaranteed to the victim’s family.
The accused – Tousif – belonged to a “powerful political family” and he was detained within 12 hours of committing the crime, Vij said, adding that the murder had shaken the whole country.
Nikita’s family alleged that the accused was pressuring her to convert to Islam in order to marry him.
Some Hindu outfits alleged that the murder of the woman was a case of “love jihad”.
Earlier, INLD MP Abhay Singh Chautala called on the state government to take adequate measures to protect the lives of women.
He demanded that police safety be provided outside educational institutions with girls to stop such incidents.
