Jaipur:

In an apparent reference to allegations that the BJP attempted to poach congressional deputies before Rajya Sabha’s elections, Rajasthan’s chief deputy minister, Sachin Pilot, said that the victory of his party’s two candidates had shown that everything that was said was “baseless”.

Prior to the June 19 three-seat Rajya Sabha state election, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and other congressional leaders, including the chief whip of the Rajasthan government, Mahesh Joshi, alleged that the BJP was trying to poach their deputies.

Congress also transferred its deputies to a Jaipur complex for more than a week.

In the elections, the candidates for Congress KC Venugopal and Neeraj Dangi and Rajendra Gehlot of the BJP were elected to the upper house of Parliament.

“The independents and the deputies of the supporting parties voted in line with expectations. I had said this before the elections, which proved to be correct. This means that everything that has been said, whether by anyone, was baseless, “Pilot told reporters. Mr. Pilot said that all of the votes were cast as expected and that everything that was said or “asked to say” had “no justification”.

Pilot, who is also the head of the State Congress, dismissed allegations by BJP President of State Satish Poonia that mines or land had been donated by the state government to some deputies to vote in favor of candidates for Congress.

“What is the need to tempt our own deputies,” he asked.

Pilot also said that political appointments will take place in the coming days in the state and that workers’ interests will be protected.
