Mumbai:

The Maharashtra government Vikas Aghadi has pledged to reserve jobs and education for the Marathas and has been working to defend its quota decision before the Supreme Court, PWD Minister Ashok Chavan said on Tuesday.

Chavan heads cabinet subcommittee on Maratha quota and chaired a meeting on the issue on Tuesday, attended by Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Labor Minister Dilip Walse Patil, Minister of Public Enterprise Eknath Shinde and Bahujan Minister Kalyan Vijay Wadettiwar.

It was the fifth meeting of the commission, Chavan told reporters.

The superior court hears pleas on the state government’s decision to grant reservations to the community of Maratha in matters of employment and education.

The state government has filed its affidavit in SC, while the petitioners have not yet filed their reply.

“We have to see if the two petitions will be heard on July 7,” said Chavan.
