I remain deeply concerned about China’s aggressive behavior in territorial disputes, said Bob Menendez.

Washington:

Expressing concern over China’s “aggressive behavior” in territorial disputes, including with India, a senior US senator said on Tuesday that Beijing has too often sought to “redraw” the map of Asia without considering of its neighbors.

Troops from India and China have been stuck in an impasse of more than eight weeks in several areas of eastern Ladakh, including Pangong Tso, the Galwan Valley and the Gogra Hot Spring since May 5. the staff died while the two sides dramatically increased their deployments in most areas along the LAC. The Pangong Tso incident was followed by a similar incident in North Sikkim on May 9.

The Chinese military began withdrawing troops from the Galwan Valley and the Gogra hot spring after national security adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had lengthy discussions on Sunday. Doval and Wang are also special representatives of the India-China border talks.

“As India and China strive to disengage along the real line of control (LAC), I remain deeply concerned about China’s aggressive behavior in territorial disputes,” said Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, a leading member of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Commission.

“From the dead end of Doklam in 2017 to the recent violence along the borders of Sikkim and Ladakh, to the new claims of China on Bhutanese territory, Beijing has too often sought to redraw the map of Asia without taking into account his neighbors, “he said.

The international community must be clear that such behavior is unacceptable, he added.

Bob Menendez, the senator from New Jersey, said that the American-Indian partnership, based on their shared commitment to democracy, is vital for upholding international law, international standards and institutions that can resolve peacefully and diplomatically disputes and assaults.

“I am committed to working with the Indian government and the Indo-American community in New Jersey and across the United States to advance American-Indian cooperation,” said Bob Menendez.
