The Union government has extended the tenure of law enforcement director Sanjay Kumar Mishra by one year after changing his order of appointment issued in 2018, officials said.
Mr. Mishra, 60, is an agent of the 1984 Indian Tax Administration under the Income Tax Framework and was appointed Chief Enforcement Branch on November 19, 2018.
His term was due to end next week, with the post of director of the ED having a fixed term of two years.
Pursuant to an order issued on Friday by the Revenue Ministry under the Union Ministry of Finance, Mr Mishra’s 2018 appointment order has been amended.
The President of India is pleased to approve the amendment to the earlier Ordinance dated November 19, 2018, appointing Shri Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the Director of Law Enforcement in the Directorate of Law Enforcement. law, ”he said.
He added that his appointment will be for a period of three years from the date of taking over the position or until new orders, whichever comes first.
The ED is a central investigative agency that enforces two central laws: the Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA) and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
These laws were enacted to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, black money and hawala or illegal financial transactions that have cross-border ramifications.
