The Delhi police special cell on Friday arrested “Pinjra Tod” activist Natasha Narwal and charged her under the strict law on illegal activities (prevention) for alleged conspiracy in the riots in northeast Delhi in February, police said.

Mr. Narwal, as well as another JNU student, Devangana Kalita, have already been arrested in another case, under investigation by the crime branch, related to community violence in the northeast from Delhi and are in judicial detention until June 11.

The two women are associated with the “Pinjra Tod” group, a group of students from all over Delhi and are currently housed in Mandoli prison.

“We had enough evidence against Natasha Narwal in the context of a plot linked to the riots in north-east Delhi which is under investigation by the special cell. We therefore officially arrested her with the ‘court authorization’, said a senior police officer who said: did not wish to be identified.

The two women were arrested on May 23 during a demonstration against the citizenship amendment law in the Jaffrabad region in February. A day later, the court granted them bail.

Moments after the judge made the order, the Delhi police crime unit arrested them in another violence-related case and was taken into police custody on Thursday.

Students of Jamia Millia Islamia Asif Iqbal Tanha and Gulfisha Khatoon, members of the Coordinating Committee of Jamia Safoora Zargar and Meeran Haider, president of the Association of Elders of Jamia Shifa-Ur Rehman, have suspended AAP Councilor Tahir Hussain, l former congressman Ishrat Jahan and former student leader Umar Khalid. was also listed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in the case under investigation by the Delhi Special Police Unit.

Community clashes erupted in northeast Delhi on February 24 after violence between citizenship law supporters and protesters spiraled out of control, leaving at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured.
