Nagpur:

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday suspended the three-month sentence imposed on Maharashtra Minister Yashomati Thakur for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Amravati district in 2012.

On October 15, a court in Amravati sentenced Ms. Thakur, the state minister for the development of women and children, and three others, including her driver, in the case and sentenced them to three months. ‘imprisonment.

Yashomati Thakur, a congressional leader, earlier this week filed an appeal to the High Court against the conviction and requested a stay of the sentence by way of interim measures, pending a final hearing of her plea.

The plea was also aimed at staying the sentence.

“Simply reading the testimony of the witnesses clearly shows that the court of the hearings erred in convicting the appellant (Thakur). There is no justification for the conviction,” argued lawyers for Minister Subodh Dharmadhikari and Aniket Nikam.

Judge Vinay Joshi on Thursday allowed the appeal and suspended the sentence. He published the call for a new hearing on October 27.

“The appellant was sentenced to a three-month term. Considering the amount of the sentence, his execution should be suspended,” Judge Joshi said.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 24, 2012, in the area of Chunabhatti under the limits of the Rajapeth police station in Amravati, when Thakur, then a deputy, was traveling in his vehicle with his aides.

According to the indictment, Yashomati Thakur, his driver Sagar Suresh Khandekar and party workers Sharad Kashirav Jawanjal and Raju Kisan Ingle allegedly beat traffic policeman Ulhas Raurale when he prevented his vehicle from entering a lane at one way.
