New Delhi:

A delegation of BJP leaders met with Interior Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday to request an investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) into the alleged “cold-blooded murder” of Debendra Nath Ray, a member of the BJP from Hemtabad, West Bengal.

Debendra Nath Ray was found hanging on Monday in a market near her home in Uttar Dinajpur. He named two people in an alleged suicide note found with him, police said. He was head of the CPI (M) before joining the BJP.

His family and some BJP leaders alleged that it was a “cold blooded murder by the Congress of Trinamool”, an accusation which the ruling party has denied.

The delegation was chaired by the party’s general secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya. Union Minister Babul Supriyo from Bengal, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and Rajya member Sabha Swapan Dasgupta were also part of the delegation.

BJP secretary general Kailash Vijayvargiya said that BJP workers were attacked in West Bengal and urged the interior minister to order an investigation into the member’s death.

“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not comfortable with the rise of the BJP. There is criminalization of the police and a complete breakdown of the state apparatus,” he told reporters after meeting Amit Shah.

Vijayvargiya said the interior minister had asked the Bengal police for a report on the matter.

Babul Supriyo alleged that the MLA autopsy report was “fabricated” and that the police and the Secretary of State for the Interior made separate statements.

“We want an independent investigation and so we have met with the president and now the interior minister for an investigation by the CBI,” he said.

Earlier, the team met with President Ram Nath Kovind and asked for an investigation by the CBI and requested the dismissal of the government of Congress from Trinamool in West Bengal.
