The Supreme Court declared the demolition of Babri Masjid to be manifestly illegal, said Randeep Surjewala.

New Delhi:

Congress slammed the Lucknow Special Court’s decision acquitting all defendants in the 28-year-old Babri Masjid demolition case, saying it “goes against” the Supreme Court’s judgment last November and the spirit of the Constitution.

In its judgment authorizing the construction of a temple, the Supreme Court had declared that the demolition of Babri Masjid was an obvious illegality and “a flagrant violation of the rule of law”, stressed the Congress.

“But the Special Court has exonerated all the accused. It is clear that the decision of the Special Court goes against the decision of the Supreme Court of India,” read a statement from the senior congressional official and party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

The party also accused the BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of a “deeply rooted conspiracy” to destroy “the country’s communal friendship and brotherhood to” usurp power at all costs “.
