New Delhi:

India on Wednesday successfully tested the BrahMos supersonic extended-range cruise missile, which can hit targets over 400 kilometers away.

Congratulating the team of scientists involved in today’s successful test, DRDO Chairman Dr G. Satheesh Reddy said this would lead to adding “more indigenous content” to the supersonic cruise missile.

The test firing was carried out as part of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) project PJ-10, where the missile was launched with a native thruster.

The missile was launched from a ground installation in Odisha.

This is the second firing test of the extended range version of the missile which has a locally developed airframe and booster.

The BrahMos is a ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, fighter jets or on land.

The missile was developed as a joint venture between the DRDO and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM) of Russia.
