With the possibility that the total number of coronavirus cases in Assam will cross the 1000 mark by this weekend, the State is strengthening its health infrastructure on the brink of war. The first brand-new COVID-19 super specialty hospital in the northeast opened in Guwahati, where patients with severe and positive coronavirus symptoms would be treated. The hospital, with 200 beds, will be “fully operational” by Monday, government sources added.
The new hospital is one of the few in the country to have its air conditioning system sanitized by a UV device specially imported from Canada. It has 50 advanced intensive care beds with ventilators and 150 isolation beds for COVID-19 patients.
“This is a fully equipped hospital. The hospital, which cost 150 crore rupees, was initially planned to be a super specialized hospital annexed to the Guwahati Medical College, but with the COVID-19 situation, the Assam government decided to transform it into a super specialized hospital in coronavirus . The secretary of health of Assam affirms that even if the majority cases are asymptomatic, the State is ready for serious cases.

Doctors, nurses and paramedics from the new hospital have already been deployed and have received COVID-19 training, added Sinha.
Assam aims to create 5,000 beds in state hospitals for COVID-19 patients, he said.
