Two members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed to Jharkhand donated blood to save the life of one, arrested injured after meeting with the force, for “humanitarian” reasons, officials announced on Friday. .

A team led by the 60th Battalion of the Paramilitary Forces and the State Police killed three Maoists and arrested two of them on Thursday after an exchange of gunfire in the forests of the Manmaru-Tebo region, in the district of West Singhbhum in Jharkhand.

No member of the security forces was injured.

CRPF officers Om Prakash Yadav and Sandeep Kumar volunteered to donate blood to one of the injured Maoists, Manoj Hessa, Thursday evening after doctors at a Tatanagar hospital informed their commanders that the injured ‘they had admitted had lost a lot of blood.

“I know that they train us with firearms … we also undertake combat missions against them … but it is above all humanity. I have just done my part as a human being” , Yadav told PTI by phone from Jharkhand.

The 36-year-old jawan, who joined the country’s largest paramilitary force, which has approximately 3.25 lakh of personnel in its ranks, in 2006, said that he had donated blood in the past and that he believed that it is the most precious gift that can be given to another person.

Mr. Yadav is from the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand.

His colleague, Sandeep Kumar, 30, is the carpenter of the unit and shares the same thought.

“We are fighting to shoot, kill the opponent as part of our duty for the nation. But saving a life is also our duty,” he said.

Originally from the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, Kumar joined the CRPF in 2010.

Officials said the injured Maoist was stable now.

“The staff did what they were trained to do and that is their dedication to duty and the protection of human life.

“We are proud of the two jawans who donated blood to a wounded Maoist in Jharkhand,” CRPF spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Moses Dhinakaran, said in Delhi.

Three Maoists, including a woman, were killed in the operation and an AK-47 and a .303 caliber rifle were seized.
