Amitabh Bachchan remembers veteran choreographer Saroj Khan with several anecdotes, from his 1973 film Bandhe Haath, in which Saroj Khan was assistant dance director and also a background dancer. Sharing a black and white memory of what seems to be a recent past, Mr. Bachchan began his article by writing how the news of the death of Saroj Khan made “a whole story of time” run in his mind. “She was an enthusiastic and engaging young dance assistant for one of the main dance directors of the time … the time when I was just starting … from the film Bandhe Haath with the beating heart of millions of Mumtaz … with the director OP Ralhan. The grace and acceptance of Mumtaz for agreeing to work with this beginner – she is a stratospheric star, me person. And Saroj ji in the crowd of dancers in a song. Her subtle grace when she moved, “read an excerpt from Big B’s post.

Talk about Saroj Khan career transformation from an assistant director to a legendary Bollywood choreographer, Mr. Bachchan shared a gesture of signature from Saroj Khan: “And then over the years, she excelled and reached the podium title as a dance director or as the language changed, the choreographer of a film … her movements becoming famous for each artist she worked with her and when she saw an artist giving a good shot under her care, she called him aside and gave him a coin in rupee as a gesture like a pat on the back, a shagun. Many years later, during the song sequence of a film I was making, I became the recipient of this piece … a huge success. “

Amitabh Bachchan also revealed that he got his “best compliment” from the song’s Saroj Khan Khaike paan after Don released: “Saroj ji, you gave us and the industry, the rhythm, the style, the grace of movement and the art of converting the words of a song into a meaning in dance. During a chance meeting several years ago she gave me my best compliments She lived in Dubai so wedding and when Don was released, she said, “ I saw the movie and then I went to the theater where it was released, when your song Khaike paan was on, see it and get out.
