Amar Akbar Anthony is a cult classic and Amitabh Bachchan marked 43 years of the film with a post full of memories, a backstage story and a Baahubali reference. Big B, who was portrayed as Anthony, starred in the three-hero film with Vinod Khanna (Amar) and Rishi Kapoor (Akbar), which was released on May 27, 1977. Big B’s daughter Shweta, born in 1974 , was just a toddler when Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for the film when Abhishkek, born in 1976, was a baby. Sharing a black and white photo of the film sets, Big B wrote: “Shweta and Abhishek visited me on set Amar Akbar Anthony. Song shooting My name is Anthony Gonsalves at the Holiday Inn Ballroom. This photo on the waterfront. 43 years of AAA today! “
Directed by Manmohan Desai, the whole troop of Amar Akbar Anthony also included Neetu Singh (she married Rishi Kapoor in 1980), Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, Nirupa Roy, Pran, Jeevan, Yusuf Khan, Amjad Khan and Ranjeet. “When Man Ji came to tell me the idea and told me the title, I thought he had lost it. Earlier this month on World Laughter Day, Big B shared a ROFL clip of the film, as well as an anecdote of the shooting of the film in the emblematic RK studios, just days after the death of Rishi Kapoor.

Man ji said to me, you repeat this mirror scene “zara us main floor pe shot lekar aata hoon” .. but when he returned, I had already done the scene and shot with the ASST., .. a basic idea given by Kader Bhai .. the rest is impromptu, ad lib, a catch .. !! When Man ji returned to this set, he was surprised that his asst., Anil Nagrath and I did it .. he commented on ‘aye, barabar kiya hai na scene .. thok to nahi diya ..’ !! Man ji finally saw the scene a month later – it took time to process the development of the print at that time .. he saw it at the mini-test theater of the Ranjit studios, where we were filming the point culminating in AAA .. after seeing him we sat on the steps of the Office in the Studio and he said to me .. ‘Lalla! you’re going to work in each of my films that I make, until you say NO ‘!!! These were the days !!!
