Guwahati:
About 20 people died in a series of landslides that took place in Assam today. Most of the dead come from three different districts in the Barak Valley region of southern Assam. Several others were injured. Rescue teams were dispatched to the sites.
Among the dead are seven people in Cachar district, seven in Hailakandi district and six in Karimganj district, sources said.
The region has been experiencing heavy rain for several days.
The northeastern state is already experiencing massive flooding which has affected around 3.72 lakh people. The Goalpara district is the most affected, followed by Nagaon and Hojai.
