Police released a photo of Zahid Dass on Friday.

Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir):

Two of the three terrorists trapped by security forces in Anantnag in southern Kashmir this morning were killed, police said. One of the terrorists trapped by the forces is said to be Zahid Dass, the killer of a six-year-old boy who was shot dead with a CRPF jawan in a terrorist attack last week.

Gunfire broke out early today as security forces tracking down the terrorists launched an operation in a village in Waghama, based on specific intelligence data.

“A fierce meeting is underway. Two terrorists have been killed so far,” said Vijay Kumar, inspector general of the Kashmir police.

On Friday, a CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) jawan and six-year-old Nihaan Bhat were killed when terrorists opened fire on an opening route team near the Padshahi Bagh bridge in Bijbehara area in Anantnag.

Little Nihaan Bhat was sleeping in a parked car when he was hit by a bullet. Police said the terrorist was on a bicycle and opened fire with a pistol. The murder provoked immense anger and condemnation.

Shortly after the attack, police released a photo of Zahid Dass, a terrorist from the Islamic State (ISJK) radical group.

Police sources say they have followed Zahid Dass since Friday’s attack. Based on information about him and two other terrorists hiding in the village of Waghama, the police and the army launched a joint operation.

Security forces killed three terrorists yesterday, including a member of the Hezbul Moudjahidin, in Anantnag. With the death of Hezbul Moudjahidin commander Masood Ahmed Bhat, the police declared the district of Doda, in the south of Kashmir free of terrorists. Masood was the last surviving terrorist in the neighborhood, police said, declaring a major success in the fight against terrorism.

Kashmiri police chief Dilbag Singh said more than 100 terrorists were killed this year in Jammu and Kashmir. “In the past five and a half months or so, more than 100 terrorists have been neutralized, including more than 50 from Hizbul Mujahideen, 20 from Lashkar-e-Taiba, 20 from Jaish-e-Mohammed and the rest of small outfits like Al-Badr, Ansar Gazwatul Hind, “said Singh on Monday.
