With the aim of intensifying tests across the country, the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) validated the 1000th test laboratory on Tuesday, while the number of RT-PCR tests for the detection of the disease has passed the seven million mark.
Of these 1,000 COVID-19 analysis laboratories, 730 are in government structures and 270 laboratories are in the private sector, reported the PTI news agency.
“This is an important step in the fight against coronaviruses. From the beginning, we have focused on 3T – test, follow-up and treatment – to fight against the disease. Thanks to an increase in tests, we are fighting this virus, “said Managing Director Dr. Balram Bhargava said.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi crossed the 66,000 mark on Tuesday with the biggest day-long peak of 3,947 fresh infections, while the number of deaths from the disease was 2 301, according to the authorities.
The national capital reported 3,000 or more new cases between Friday and Sunday. On Monday, 2,909 cases were registered in the city.
Sixty-eight people have died from a new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, a bulletin from the Delhi Health Service said on Tuesday.
The number of deaths from infection has risen to 2,301, and the total number of cases has risen to 66,602, the report said.
The new coronavirus has killed at least 473,475 people worldwide since the epidemic started in China last year, according to the AFP news agency.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Assam crossed the 6000 mark on Tuesday as 203 more people tested positive for the disease, said Minister of Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma.
With the new infections, the total number of active cases in the state has grown to 2,282, reported PTI.
