Bombay:

A model and YouTuber, posing as a journalist, were arrested Tuesday by Mumbai police for allegedly posting abusive material against women on social media.

Pradeep Mohinder Singh Choudhary, also known as Saahil Choudhary, has videos on several topics, including the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, on his YouTube channel.

Mr. Choudhary was brought to Mumbai after his arrest in Delhi. The YouTuber is from Faridabad in Haryana, police said.

Following a woman’s complaint, police charged Mr. Choudhary under relevant sections of India’s penal code with abusive language on the pretext of being a journalist. Police said the man confessed that he was not a journalist and that he uploaded the videos to increase the number of followers on his YouTube channel and other social networks, such as Instagram.

Saahil Choudhary has posted several videos on the Sushant Rajput affair, many of which have no factual basis. He was arrested under Articles 509, 505 (2), 500, 501, 504 and 34 of the IPC. He was also charged under section 67 of the Information Technology Act 2000.

Meanwhile, actor Kangana Ranaut spoke out in favor of the YouTuber and tweeted: “What’s going on this gunda raaj in Mumbai? No one can question the world‘s most incompetent CM and his team? What are they going to do to us? Break our homes and kill us? @INCIndia who is responsible for this? #Istandwithsaahilchoudhary (sic). “

In another tweet, she said: “Someone files a random FIR against Saahil for questioning the work of the Maha government, which is its democratic right, and Shaahil is immediately jailed but #PayalGhosh filed an FIR against #AnuragKashyap several days ago for rape but he’s on the loose. Kya hai yeh sab @INCIndia (sic)? “
