The wife of Bollywood producer Firoz Nadiadwala was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday after investigators found 10 grams of marijuana at their home in Mumbai during a raid, officials said.
NCB Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede told the PTI news agency that Firoz Nadiadwala was summoned by the anti-drug agency earlier today, but he did not show up.
“We have arrested Firoz Nadiadwala’s wife under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). A further investigation is underway,” he said.
Earlier today, the Nadiadwala residence was searched by a team of NCB officials who seized the marijuana, officials said.
The contraband had been bought from a defendant identified as Wahid Abdul Kadir Sheikh aka Sultan who had been arrested earlier, they said.
“Firoz Nadiadwala’s wife Shabana Saeed has received a notice under article 67 of the NDPS law. She was arrested after her statement was recorded, ”officials said.
The NCB previously arrested four people as part of its crackdown on drug traffickers and their clients linked to the Hindi film industry.
The agency’s crackdown on Bollywood began after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June with allegations his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, also an actor, had helped him buy drugs.
Since then, actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh and others have been arrested by the BCN.
