The World Health Organization on Tuesday warned of complacency over further transmission of coronavirus in the northern hemisphere in summer, saying the virus does not behave like the flu which tends to follow seasonal patterns .
“People still think of the seasons. What we all need to understand is that this is a new virus and … this one behaves differently,” Margaret Harris said during a virtual briefing in Geneva, calling for vigilance in the application of measures to slow down transmission which is spread via mass gatherings.
She also cautioned against thinking in terms of virus waves, saying, “It’s going to be a big wave. It’s going to go up and down a bit. The best thing you can do is flatten it and turn it into something lapping at your feet. “
