A car bomb attack on an Afghan police base, followed by an ongoing shooting, killed two police officers and injured dozens in a city bordering Pakistan, officials said on Tuesday.

The complex attack in the town of Khost was launched early in the morning and injured 14 security officers and nine civilians.

A shooting near the base was underway, an AFP correspondent reported.

The car bomb exploded at the entrance to a special police force base in the town of Khost, a security source said.

After the explosion, a group of attackers tried to enter the compound of the base, which sparked a shootout with the security forces, the spokesman for the Afghan interior ministry told reporters. , Tariq Arian.

Four attackers were killed while two others were still fighting, Arian said.
