Vidya Balan and Shakuntala Devi adds to a pretty awesome artist. The actress brings the life of the famous mathematician Shakuntala Devi to the screen with her fiery touch. Vidya Balan portrays Shakuntala Devi brilliantly with a smile on her face and witticism in her dialogues. The film tells the story of the child prodigy from his beginnings in India to the time she spent in London (she moved there with her father in 1944), including her milestone Guinness. Shakuntala Devi, known as the “human computer”, was named in the 1982 Guinness Book of World Records for a 13-digit multiplication in 28 seconds.
The film also talks about the turbulence of Shakuntala Devi relationship with daughter Anupama, played by actress Sanya Malhotra. We know very little about Shakuntala Devi’s relationship with his daughter and from the trailer, it seems that Anupama has a grudge against his mother for having given priority to mathematics before her.

Shakuntala Devi was a respected mathematician and the author of several books on the subject. Besides mathematics, she wrote a book on homosexuality, entitled The world of homosexuals, which caused a sensation when it was released on the shelves in 1977. This chapter is also explored in the film.
Written and directed by Anu Menon, Shakuntala Devi was scheduled for release in May 2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockout, the the filmmakers opted for a digital output.
Shakuntala Devi will now be released on Amazon Prime Video on July 31. Shakuntala Devi Jisshu Sengupta is also the on-screen husband of Shakuntala Devi, while Amit Sadh was cast opposite Sanya Malhotra.
