A Uttarakhand minister and 41 others residing in his official residence in Dehradun were quarantined after his wife tested positive for coronavirus.

The swab report on Saturday evening confirmed that the minister’s wife had contracted the virus. She was admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh for further treatment.

According to the ANI news agency, samples of 41 people, who live in the minister’s home, were collected and sent for COVID-19 tests.

Uttarakhand recorded 22 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, bringing the number of cases to 749. Of the 22 new cases, 14 are from Dehradun, 3 from Haridwar and 5 from Nainital.

India recorded its highest peak in a single day of COVID-19 cases on Sunday with 8,380 new infections reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the country up to 1,822,143, while the number of deaths is increased to 5164, according to the Union’s Department of Health.

On Saturday, the Union’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MHA) released new guidelines, extending the national lockdown until June 30 with a gradual plan to unblock India.

Strict orders enforced on March 25, the date the country was blocked to break the chain of virus transmission, will be limited to containment areas – areas sealed due to a large number of COVID-19 cases – at least up to ” as of June 30.
