The Uttar Pradesh government suspended Kanpur Police Chief Anant Dev after an investigation by a special investigative team found a link between the police and gangster Vikas Dubey, responsible for the death of eight policemen.

“Anant Dev has been suspended. Action has been taken based on the SIT report,” said Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi.

Anant Dev holds the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the police.
