The United States on Thursday recorded a record number of new cases of coronavirus.

The United States on Thursday recorded a record number of new coronavirus cases, exceeding 90,000 diagnoses for the first time in 24 hours, according to a count from Johns Hopkins University.

The country, which has seen a resurgence of its Covid-19 outbreak since mid-October, recorded 91,295 new cases within 24 hours until 8:30 p.m. Thursday (12:30 a.m. GMT Friday), according to a real-time tally from the Baltimore School based.

The United States has counted 8.94 million cases of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, the highest number of any country in the world.

In the same 24-hour period, 1,021 people died from Covid-19 in the United States, bringing the country’s total to 228,625. It is the highest recorded toll in the world.

The country’s previous record for daily cases was set on Saturday, with 88,973 new infections.

The virus is currently spreading most widely in the Midwest.

Five days before the election, Democrat Joe Biden has made Donald Trump’s management of the health crisis his main point of attack against the president.
