Indian and Chinese forces have been stuck in a deadlock on their de facto Himalayan border since May.

Washington:

A senior US congressman on Friday condemned the Chinese military’s acts of aggression in India’s Ladakh region, which resulted in deadly clashes between the two countries along the Line of Effective Control (LAC), claiming that Beijing intended to redraw the frontier established by force.

Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a bitter standoff in several areas along the LAC in eastern Ladakh since May 5. The situation deteriorated last month following clashes in the Galwan Valley where 20 members of the Indian military were killed and an unconfirmed number of Chinese soldiers died.

“I rise to condemn the measures taken by the People’s Republic of China, or PRC in the Ladakh region of India, which led to deadly clashes between the two countries on June 15,” Congressman Frank said on Friday. Pallone on the floor of the US House of Representatives. .

“Since – the truth is – 1962, the PRC and India have been divided by an effective line of control 2,100 miles long. In the months leading up to this clash, the PRC army reportedly gathered 5,000 troops along this border. . This clearly meant redrawing borders long established by force and aggression, ”said Mr. Pallone.

This intention of encroachment and escalation tactics used by the PRC is consistent with other provocative actions its forces have taken across South and Southeast Asia, the Democratic Congressman from New York said. Jersey.

To counter this, the House of Representatives passed an amendment that calls on China to cease military aggression and calls for immediate diplomatic action to prevent further escalation of the conflict, Pallone said.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to help strengthen our vital relationship with India,” said the congressman.
