In the 1980s, Congress had the opportunity to bring justice to Muslim women, however, the voting bank was more important for the party and not justice for women, Union Minister Smriti Irani said on Friday. on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the law against the triple Talaq.

Recalling the time of the 1980s, when Congress was the ruling party in the country, Ms. Irani said the party never sought to improve the lives of Muslim women, although they “had the numbers”.

“In the 1980s Congress had the time and the numbers to deliver justice for Muslim women. But the voting bank was more important to them and not justice for Muslim women. They never sought to improve life. Muslim women, ”Ms. Irani said.

Union ministers Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Smriti Irani addressed Muslim women here on Friday to commemorate the first anniversary of the law against Triple Talaq.

The bill was passed by Parliament last year, and the Center decided to celebrate the day as Muslim Women’s Rights Day.

As Eid and Raksha Bandhan approach, Ms. Irani praised the women and thanked the Prime Minister for empowering women.

“Naqvi Ji always told me he would give me an Eidi that will make me proud of him. Today is one of those days, ”she said.

Taking a dig in Congress, Ms Irani said the party was more concerned with her survival than with bringing justice to women. She mentioned how she endorsed the Prime Minister’s call to wear a face mask and “do gaj ki doori“.

“This country had a female Prime Minister but it was Prime Minister Modi who cared about empowering women through initiatives like building toilets, opening bank accounts and 10 crores of families benefiting from the Aarogya program. Setu, ”she said.

“80 lakh poor women have been screened for breast cancer like illnesses. I believe a day will come when we will see Muslim women leading digital culture,” she said.
