Walmart said partnership with Microsoft would meet expectations of U.S. TikTok users, U.S. government concerns

San Francisco:

U.S. retail giant Walmart said Thursday it had partnered with Microsoft in an effort to purchase the TikTok short video app.

The app has been at the center of a diplomatic storm between the United States and China, and President Donald Trump on August 6 signed an executive order giving Americans 45 days to stop doing business with its Chinese parent company ByteDance.

This decision effectively set a deadline for the sale of TikTok to an American company.

“We are convinced that a Walmart and Microsoft partnership would both meet the expectations of US TikTok users while also meeting the concerns of US government regulators,” the retailer told AFP.
