Biplab Deb took over as Chief Minister of Tripura in 2018.

Agartala:

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb took to Twitter today to ask for an apology from the Punjabi and Jat communities after his shocking comments which painted stereotypical caricatures of the Jats of Haryana and the Bengalis.

“Several of my friends are from this community. If anyone has been hurt by my comments, I apologize,” Mr. De said in Hindi in a series of tweets.

Here’s what Mr Deb – who had made several controversial statements in the past – recently said at an event: “Haryana has a lot of Jats. Haryana’s Jats lack brains but are muscular. They can’t match. the Bengalis in the brain. The Bengalis are known everywhere. India for being smart, “said Mr Deb.

A 50-second video of the Chief Minister’s speech was uploaded by Congressman Randeep Singh Surjewala, who described the comments as indicative of “the BJP’s state of mind.”

“During an event at the Agartala Press Club, I spoke about the opinions of some people about our brothers Jat and Punjabi. My intention was not to hurt any community. I am proud of the Punjabi and Jat communities. I have lived with them for a long time, ”Mr Deb tweeted today.

Biplab Deb took over as Chief Minister of Tripura in 2018 after the BJP ended three decades of leftist rule. He’s notorious for pulling his tongue out and therefore, has been embroiled in a lot of controversy over the past year.

In November last year, he claimed that the Mughals intended to destroy the cultural wonders of the state of Tripura by “bombing” its art and architecture.

The year before, Mr. Deb claimed that the Internet and satellite communications existed during the Mahabharata era. “Europeans and Americans can pretend it’s theirs, but it’s actually our technology,” he said.

Also in 2018, Mr Deb said oxygen levels in water bodies “automatically” rise if ducks swim there and that he wants to distribute ducks among villagers to boost the rural economy.
