Pfizer and its partner BioNTech SE confirmed the deal in a statement Thursday.

JERUSALEM:

Israel will sign a tentative deal with Pfizer Inc on Friday to receive 8 million doses of the drugmaker’s still-experimental coronavirus vaccine from January, the Israeli health minister said.

The agreement, whose implementation would be subject to approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Israeli Ministry of Health, would provide vaccines to nearly half of Israel’s population, has said Health Minister Yuli Edelstein.

“The supply would start in January 2021, the rest will arrive throughout 2021,” he said in a statement Thursday, adding that the order would be for 8 million doses, or 4 million people.

Pfizer and its partner BioNTech SE confirmed the deal in a statement Thursday and said they would not disclose financial details, but that the terms of the deal would be tied to the timing of delivery and the volume of doses delivered.

“Our goal remains to create a global supply of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for many people around the world, as quickly as possible,” Sean Marett, chief commercial officer of BioNTech, said in a statement.
