The meeting in Jammu and Kashmir Shopian started around 6:30 am.

Srinagar / Shopian:

Three terrorists were killed during a meeting this morning in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The meeting erupted between the 44 Rashtriya Rifles and terrorists around 6 am in the Shopian region of Turkwangam, about 60 km from Srinagar, the capital of J&K, officials said. Troops from the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Zainapora and the 178 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) later joined. The terrorists have yet to be identified.

“#TurkwangamShopainEncounterUpdate: So far, three unidentified terrorists have been killed. Searches continue. More details will follow. @JmuKmrPolice (sic),” read a tweet from the Kashmiri police.

An INSAS and two AK-47s were recovered from the meeting site, police said. Search operations are still in progress.

On Saturday, two terrorists from the Hizbul Mujahideen were killed during a meeting in the Julgu and Kashmir districts of Kulgam.

At Shopian, it’s the fourth meeting in almost a week. Five terrorists were killed on June 10 during a joint operation by the troops of the Central Reserve Police Force, the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group.

Nine terrorists, including three Hezbul mujahideen commanders, were killed in two separate meetings in Shopian in less than 24 hours, police said on June 8.

At least 22 terrorists, including 6 senior commanders, have been killed in the past two weeks in nine different operations in Jammu and Kashmir, said Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Monday. Eighty-eight terrorists have been killed this year in about 36 operations, he added.
