The death toll from Cyclone Amphan in West Bengal has risen to 98, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Friday.
“According to reports from district magistrates, the number of deaths from Cyclone Amphan has dropped from 86 to 98. We are sending money to those who lost their lives in the disaster,” said Ms. Banerjee.
She said that the family of each person killed in the cyclone will receive Rs 2.5 lakh while those seriously injured and those with minor injuries will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
The chief minister also announced a fund of Rs 6,250 crore to help those affected to build houses, help farmers, provide assistance for betel leaf plantations as well as the construction and repair of tube wells. .
Referring to the restoration of electricity supply in the districts after the cyclone of May 20, Mamata Banerjee said that 80% of electricity had been restored in six districts and 100% in 10 others. The 273 electrical substations have been restored in the districts.
