Bursts of guns mingled with cries of revenge as the bodies of four Bihar army soldiers, among the 20 who were killed in border clashes with Chinese troops, were delivered to the flames to their respective places of origin on Friday.

Four guinea pigs and a Havildar Sunil Kumar from the Patna district died in the Galwan Valley. Havildars’ body was cremated on Thursday, arriving the day before.

The last rites of the sepoys Kundan Kumar (Saharsa), Chandan Kumar (Bhojpur), Aman Kumar (Samastipur) and Jai Kishor Singh (Vaishali) were performed during the day.

Songs from “Kundan Yadav amar rahein” (long live Kundan Yadav (caste name) praise the air in the northern Bihar district of Saharsa when the jawan, who joined the army eight years ago and who leaves in the Mourning his wife and two-year-old crematorium in the presence of a huge crowd, including Minister of State Ramesh Rishidev.

“The Bihar government is with members of the bereaved family in this hour of grief. The martyrdom has made the country proud. His sacrifice will not be in vain,” said Rishidev on the occasion.

Similar scenes were seen in Vaishali district where the final rites of Jai Kishor Singh, a young sepoy who joined the military in 2018 inspired by his older brother and who his family planned to marry this year, were performed on the banks of the Ganges in the middle of anti-Chinese slogans echoing in the landscape.

Ministers Nand Kishore Yadav and Vijay Kumar Sinha were present on this occasion as representatives of the state government which announced aid of Rs 36 lakh in addition to government work for each bereaved family.

In Samastipur, Aman Kumar Singh was cremated in the presence of a huge crowd led by Minister Maheshwar Hazari, who also comforted the bereaved family and assured them of all support.

His bereaved father declared, amid sobs, that he was ready to make more sacrifices and would be happy if more members of his family joined the army and avenged the martyrdom of his son.

In Bhojpur, which is proud to be the birthplace of the hero Veer Kunwar Singh in 1857, Chandan Kumar was cremated in the presence of Ministers Prem Kumar and Vinod Kumar Singh.

A huge swarm had gathered on the cremation ground which vibrated with echoes of slogans seeking a “suitable response” to the “betrayal” of China.
