Goa has made it mandatory for anyone entering the state to obtain a COVID-19 (representational) test

Panaji:

Goa’s chief minister, Pramod Sawant, said he would investigate the incident where a woman successfully skipped the mandatory COVID-19 test upon arrival from Mumbai and was subsequently tested positive for the virus.

On Thursday, an elderly woman living in the city of Calangute, north of Goa, tested positive for COVID-19 after complaining of shortness of breath.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday evening, Sawant admitted that the woman “skipped the COVID-19 test” when she arrived from Mumbai.

Goa has made it mandatory for anyone entering the state to undergo a COVID-19 test and samples of swabs are collected at state borders, at railway stations and at Dabolim Airport.

“It is true that she entered the state without being tested. She was admitted to the dedicated COVID-19 hospital after being tested positive,” said the Prime Minister.

“An investigation will be carried out into this matter,” he said.

“At least 3,000 people enter the state every day, so it is unclear how she skipped the test,” he added.

As of Thursday, Goa has registered 166 cases of COVID-19, of which 109 patients are on treatment, while 57 have recovered from the infection.
